Cubes 1 to 20 Table for Bank Exams
Cubes up to 20 are used in number series, simplification and approximation. Learn the table once and the last-digit trick below does the rest.
Tricks to remember them
- The last digit: a cube ends in the same digit as the number for 0, 1, 4, 5, 6 and 9. For 2 and 8 it swaps (2³ = 8, 8³ = 512), and for 3 and 7 it swaps (3³ = 27, 7³ = 343).
- The next cube: (n + 1)³ = n³ + 3n² + 3n + 1. 11³ = 1331, so 12³ = 1331 + 363 + 33 + 1 = 1728.
- The sum of the first n cubes is the square of the sum: 1³ + 2³ + 3³ = 36 = (1 + 2 + 3)².
Cube root of a perfect cube
- The last digit of the cube tells the last digit of the root. 4913 ends in 3, and only 7³ ends in 3, so the root ends in 7.
- The thousands part tells the first digit: 4 lies between 1³ = 1 and 2³ = 8, so the first digit is 1. The root of 4913 is 17.
